It was stated that this week in the UK could be the hottest day in the country with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius.
The UK Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued an extreme temperature warning for the first time, taking into account that temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius for the first time, posing a risk of serious illness and even death among healthy people.
It has been reported that the "red" alert for extreme temperatures that negatively affect travel, health services and education will last until 19 July.
The highest temperature ever recorded in the UK was 38.7 degrees Celsius, a record in 2019.
"We see a high probability of temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and above tomorrow. 40 degrees Celsius is not unlikely. There are even 43 degrees Celsius in the modeling, but we hope it won't be that high," said Penelope Endersby, President of the Met Office.
The extreme heat warning remains in effect from London in the south to Manchester and Leeds in the north.
