The Cursed Oscar Selfie | Their Lives Darkened Over 10 Years - Qpidi

Ten years have passed since a group of celebrities came together for an innocent photo on Oscar night. The photo, which broke sharing records on social media, saw the lives of many featured celebrities take unfortunate turns over the decade. Here's what happened to the stars in Ellen DeGeneres' unforgettable 2014 Oscar selfie.

The Cursed Oscar Selfie

On the night of the Oscars in 2014, host Ellen DeGeneres captured a selfie that made waves on social media. The photo featured globally renowned stars like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Spacey, Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, and Julia Roberts. Following this moment, many of these stars experienced significant downturns in their lives.

Ellen DeGeneres faced accusations in 2020 of creating a "toxic work environment" and bullying her staff. Following these allegations, the once-celebrated daytime TV queen lost her throne, with social media platforms labeling her "The Worst Person Alive." An employee from "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" later confirmed, "All the stories are true!" leading to the end of the 19-year morning show in 2022.

Jennifer Lawrence was a victim of a photo hacking scandal in 2014, leading to widespread trauma. The Hunger Games actress expressed in an interview that the trauma from the leaked nude photos by hackers was something she could never overcome.

Kevin Spacey faced sexual assault allegations in 2017. Although a jury found Spacey not guilty, Netflix's House of Cards promptly removed him from the cast. The actor faced numerous similar allegations of sexual misconduct in the US and the UK, from which he was either acquitted or the charges were dropped. However, his career never fully recovered.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's tumultuous divorce came two years after the selfie, cited due to "irreconcilable differences." Officially divorced in 2020, the couple, who have six children, reportedly separated following a violent incident on a private jet before their separation became public. Angelina Jolie was revealed to be the anonymous complainant who took the matter to court.

Bradley Cooper, seen happy and satisfied in DeGeneres' selfie, was nominated for his second Oscar for "American Hustle" in 2014. Since then, Cooper has received 10 more Oscar nominations (including for films he directed and wrote) but has yet to win an award.

Since the selfie in 2014, Jared Leto has appeared in films like "Suicide Squad," "Zack Snyder's Justice League," "House of Gucci," "Morbius," and "The Haunted Mansion." Not content with just a film career, he attempted to climb to the top of the Empire State Building.

Julia Roberts, once Hollywood's biggest superstar, has faced a string of failures since 2014. Her role in the romantic comedy "Ticket to Paradise," co-starring George Clooney, was the only bright spot in a decade filled with disappointments and box office failures.

Meryl Streep's 45-year marriage to Don Gummer ended three years after the selfie, with news of their separation since 2017 coming to light. The acclaimed actress's long-standing marriage concluded in the wake of the cursed Oscar selfie's aftermath.
