Former F1 stars Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi had their cars stolen on the same day. Austrian driver Berger reported his red F512M Testarossa missing in front of his hotel.

In 2023, London's Metropolitan Police started an investigation after receiving a report from Ferrari that a car sold to an American buyer through a UK gallery had been stolen. The investigation revealed that Berger's car was sent to Japan shortly after being stolen and brought to the UK in late 2023.

Police seized the car to prevent its sale out of the country. Investigating officer Mike Pilbeam stated, "The stolen Ferrari is worth about 350,000 pounds and had been missing for over 28 years."

Pilbeam added that quick cooperation with partners, including the National Crime Agency, Ferrari, and international car dealers, was effective in understanding the car's history and preventing its exit from the country.

Berger, one of the most popular drivers during his 14-season Formula 1 career from 1984 to 1997, won 10 Grand Prix races for Ferrari and finished the championship in third place twice.
