British Museum Says Sorry For Saying That Women Should Find Men by Looking Confused at Roman Exhibit - Qpidi

The British Museum got in trouble for a social media post about its Roman military history exhibit.

The British Museum faced criticism for a social media post suggesting that single women should pretend to be confused at a Roman military history exhibit to attract men.

This post was meant to mimic a TikTok trend where women talk about men explaining the Roman Empire. The museum's message, which was later deleted, joked about using the exhibit to find romance.

However, many, including academics from London and Oxford, found the marketing tactic inappropriate and alienating. The museum responded to the backlash by stating the post was meant to make fun of the trend of men explaining things unnecessarily (mansplaining) and apologized to those offended, clarifying they weren't seriously advising women to act unintelligently to find dates.
