Viral videos show Tesla drivers wearing Apple Vision Pro, sparking both amazement and outrage.
A video shared by X user Dante/@lentinidante, capturing him wearing the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset while driving his Tesla, has gone viral with over 24 million views. In the 25-second clip, Dante uses both hands to interact with the headset's interface, effectively driving his Tesla hands-free on a multi-lane highway amidst other vehicles. The video concludes with law enforcement surrounding him.
Another X user, blake/@blakestonks, posted a video the following day of a Tesla Cybertruck driver, also wearing an Apple Vision Pro, filmed from a neighboring car. This driver is seen lightly tapping the steering wheel to maintain direction, frequently engaging with the headset with both hands. This video has attracted over 16 million views.
These videos have sparked controversy, with some viewers accusing the drivers of PR stunts or suggesting the headsets weren't actually turned on. However, the likelihood is that these individuals were indeed using the headsets while driving, a practice that is highly risky.
The Apple Vision Pro User Guide explicitly warns against such usage, stating that immersive experiences or a loss of power to the device could obstruct the wearer's vision. It advises never to use the Apple Vision Pro while operating a moving vehicle, bicycle, heavy machinery, or in any situation that demands attention to safety.
The potential for dangerous misuse of the Apple Vision Pro was even predicted by X user Amir/@WorkaholicDavid in January, who shared an image of the headset with the caption, "Why do I feel like some morons will wear this while driving?"
