Turkey is the one of historical country that you can find different and rich food culture. If you visit Turkey once you will know what we gonna talk about this topic so lets dive in.
1- Kebab (Kebap)
Kebab (or kebab) basically means “roasted,” and it refers to lamb form of roasted, but sometimes it may refer to chicken—or even (roasted) chestnuts—as well.
The most known Turkish kebap is şiş kebap (SHEESH keh-bahp, “shish kabob”), chunks of lamb, it is roasted on a skewer.
2- Meat Pasty (Mantı)
Meat Pasty is some kind of dumplings. There is two parts ingredients, they are the dough and the filling. The dough is made of water and flour, salt. Some of the people prefer to add eggs to increase the flavor. The thinner the dough and the smaller wrapped pieces are, the more masterful is the cook. The filling contains grounded beef or lamb, onion, salt and pepper.
3- Lamejun (Lahmacun)
‘Lahm Bi-‘Ajin’ in Arabic has 4000 years of history. Arabic name of this food ‘Lahmacun’ in Turkish, it means dough with a lot of meat. Some rumors say it has been found in the Babylonia Kingdom. You can find Lamejun everywhere in Middle Eastern countries like Syria, Iraq, Iran etc.
4- Baclava (Baklava)
Baclava is a historical pastry dessert known for its sweet, rich flavor and flaky texture and
uses phyllo dough stacked with honey and nuts or pistachio to make a sweet.
5- Meatball (Köfte)
Köfte is the term used in Turkish cuisine for meatballs. Classically Turkish meatball is a ball shaped ground beef dish, It uses basic kofte recipe, ground beef, lamb or a combination of these two is combined with bread crumbs, onion, garlic and spices.
6- Sultan's Delight (Hünkar Beğendi)
Sultan's Delight, is an old Turkish recipe going back a few hundred years to the Ottoman Empire. The term used in Turkish for this food is Hünkar Beğendi. Sultan’s Delight is decadent braised lamb served over creamy pureed eggplant.
7- Stuffed Grape Leaves with Olive Oil (Zeytinyağlı Sarma)
Stuffed grape leaves with olive oil is a very light and fresh meal that you can eat summer night with ease. Sarma means "stuffed thing" and sarma means '"wrapped thing." These are general terms used for many varieties of vegetables and leaves stuffed with meat and rice fillings. We suggest sarma with a lemon slice it will make tastier.
8- Pita (Pide)
Pita is originating from Turkey and is pronounced as “pee-DEH”. Pide is an oval-shaped flatbread baked with various combinations of toppings or stuffings. Most common variation is
Minced Pita or vegetable pita and various type of pita is avaible in Turkey like pizza.
9- Doner and Iskender (Döner ve Iskender)
Iskender kebap is a Turkish dish that consists of sliced döner kebab meat topped with hot tomato sauce over pieces of pita bread (sometimes croutons) and generously slathered with melted special sheep's milk butter and yogurt. It can be prepared from thinly and carefully cut grilled lamb or chicken. Tomato sauce and melted butter are generally poured over the dish live at the table, for the customer's amusement.
10- Delight (Lokum)
Turkish Delight, otherwise known as Lokum is made from water, sugar, dried nuts and fruits, citric acid and starch mixture that is cooked for five to six hours, at which point the flavor is added. Generally shaped as cube and serve cold to customer with some sugar powder to make it tastier and that special touching feeling.
